Jack and Toni Richmond |
Dear Jack,
I don’t think anyone has written to you about my problem, so
here goes. Father’s Day is coming up
soon and I want it to be special because my dad has been away from home for a
while. He had some problems with using
drugs and has been in a recovery program for several months now. Mom and I are
hoping our family can be whole again and happy.
Since he’s getting out of the recovery program does that mean everything
is going to be okay? I sure hope so.
Billy
Dear Billy,
Thank you for sharing something difficult to talk
about. Lots of times people think once a
person has been through treatment, whether it’s for an addiction, eating
disorders, mental health issues or something else that all will return to
normal. It’s important to understand that
recovery is a long process and will need to continue while he is living back at
home. Sometimes, it may seem he is self-absorbed,
caught up in his own stuff, and has little time for you and your mom, but he
needs to focus on himself for a while until he really gets a handle on his
problems. There may be problems with worry, sadness and fears. It will take patience on your part and the
belief that your dad will get better. If
you want to talk more please call my mom Toni at: (541) 734-5437 X107.
Your friend,
